FAQs for Fire Inspector 2

01

Are there any prerequisites?

Yes, you must complete Fire Inspector 1A, 1B, 1C, and 1D to sign up for Fire Inspector 2A. Once you have completed 2A, you can take 2B, 2C, and 2D in any order. Although it is not a requirement, ideally you have also completed the Fire Inspector 1 taskbook.

02

When should I take this class?

The Inspector 2 series is intended for journey level fire inspectors with around 3 years of experience. The series focuses on construction inspection aspects for fire protection systems as well as introductory and intermediate plan review concepts. If you are tasked with construction inspections or plan review, this series would be a fit for you.

03

What do I need for class?

You will need a functioning laptop for class to use the online Fire and Building code as well as NFPA standards. If you prefer physical codes, you can bring your own copies of NFPA 13, NFPA 72, CBC, and the CFC. You will be provided with physical paper plans for assignments in class. Digital plans will also be available so if you have a program like Bluebeam installed that can also be used, but is not required. You will be shown how to download a free trial in class.

04

Is this class difficult?

The class will be challenging. There will be pre-class assignments that will be sent out a week before the start of class for students to work on prior to the start of class. This will allow students to work through some of the concepts that will be presented in class and help them identify their points of confusion so they can ask questions during class.
